Independent security and network consulting

The hands-on side of the practice. Design, review, troubleshoot, assess, harden, and stabilize the systems and networks an operation runs on. Independent of reseller and integrator incentives. Not a reseller. Not an integrator. I work with integrators and end clients to make the system work for them.

This is the delivery work, distinct from the advisory and leadership side. Advisory is the senior judgement you reach for when a decision matters: strategy, governance, compliance, the fractional CISO role. Consulting is the specific technical job done well: an architecture you can trust, a Genetec deployment sized correctly, a network hardened properly, or an experienced set of eyes on a project that is about to go sideways.

I do not resell hardware or software, take finder's fees, or carry a partner certification that pays me to recommend one platform over another. When I name a control or a product, it is because it fits the environment, not because it sits on a price list I benefit from. That independence is the whole point of bringing in a third technical voice when the integrator and the vendor are the only two in the room.

Consulting tracks

Genetec Security Center →

Architecture review, server and storage sizing, Synergis access control, federation, deployment oversight, and troubleshooting on Security Center. Not a Genetec partner. No license revenue.

Genetec Health Check →

A structured assessment of a running Security Center environment across ten areas, ending in a prioritized remediation plan you can act on.

CCTV and Access Control →

Vendor-agnostic design and review across Genetec, C-CURE, Milestone, Avigilon, Axis, and Bosch. The system and the network it runs on, treated as one problem.

Physical Security Design →

Design and gap assessment for access control, CCTV, and integrated physical security. From threat model to specification an integrator can build to.

Enterprise Network Architecture →

The network underneath everything else. Topology, segmentation, routing, and wireless designed properly, because most platform problems are network problems wearing a costume.

Industrial and OT Networks →

Segmentation, the iDMZ, passive monitoring, and secure remote access applied in a way that respects how plant systems actually run.

Data Centre and Structured Cabling →

Physical-layer work that is cheap to fix at design and expensive after construction. Pre-construction review catches it before it becomes an installed fact.

ICAT Design and Project Advisory →

Integrated facility systems advisory and commissioning oversight for builds with physical security and technology converging on one project.

Mentorship and Technical Guidance →

For integrators on complex bids and practitioners closing a knowledge gap. An independent technical voice on a project already in progress.

Assessments, architecture, and oversight

When the work is a security program or gap assessment, an independent security architecture, or independent project oversight against a standard, that is its own engagement. See security consulting and assessments for the program-level version of this work, framed against NIST 800-171, NERC CIP, ISO 27001, and CIS Controls.
